Dorset Pet Friendly Cottages

dorset pet friendly cottagesLocated on the South West English Coast,  Dorset is a popular UK holiday destination.  If you're looking for a cottage holiday close to beaches, seaside resorts and bustling towns then Dorset could be the place for you.  And if you don't want to leave any of the family behind including your pet, don't worry as all of our Dorset cottages are pet friendly.

Some cottages welcome one well behaved dog, others accept two dogs so it's worth checking each individual cottage information to find just what you are looking for.  Many of our Dorset cottages have private gardens or are close to some excellent walks so you should be able to get out and give your four legged friend plenty of fun and exercise.

Over the summer there are some exciting events taking place in Dorset including Wareham Carnival, Tolpuddle Martyrs' Festival and Yeovuilton Air Day so if you're interested in any of these check out the latest dates so you can be sure to be in Dorset when they are taking place.

A cottage holiday in Dorset gives you the best of both worlds with both coast and countryside to explore. The gorgeous Jurassic Coast stretches for 95 miles from the East of Devon to Dorset's Studland Bay.  From walks to world famous fossil hunting there is so much to do in this area.  If you prefer to take it easy why not take a coastal cruise and admire the spectacular scenery as you cruise by.  The countryside in the Dorset region is also well worth a visit, and much of it is protected.  There is an abundance of wildlife together with water meadows, valleys, rivers and heathlands to explore.

The market towns in the area provide some excellent days out from Bridport and Beaminster to Christchurch and Wareham.  Market days in Wareham are currently Thursdays and Saturdays and are a fun way to pick up a bargain.  For a historic day trip visit Wimbourne Minster which is steeped in history.  The charming streets, courtyards and quaint shops and boutiques are perfect for exploring.

Just some of our favourite pet friendly cottages in Dorset include Crabapple Cottage which is a cosy accommodation sleeping 4.  Enjoying an elevated position we think this makes a fantastic base to see what Dorset has to offer and you will be close to Shaftsbury town centre. The woodburning stove adds a charming feel to this cottage.

For a romantic getaway we like Candy Cottage near Sherbourne located in Thornford village.  Romantic features include a roll top bath and a wood burning stove. Underfloor heating in the bathroom adds a luxurious touch.  Close to castles and an abbey in the region there are some great days out on hand.  In addition you can easily visit Bath using the nearby railway station.

For great views then The Old Tack Room cottage in Ibberton is highly recommended.  Horse lovers will especially like this property as it's been converted from an old tack room.  Sleeping up to 4 guests this charming accommodation is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  There are plenty of lovely country walks from the doorstep making this ideal for holidays with pets.

Pet Friendly Days Out in Dorset
At the time of writing dogs are allowed on a specific area of Weymouth beach which is flat and sandy, ideal for your playmate to run off some energy. However this area is not that big and may be better suited to smaller dogs.  An alternative beach is Charmouth East Beach where dogs are currently permitted before 10am and after 6pm.  This beach would be ideal for dogs to run around in the sand and also splash around in the sea as it's a gently shelving coast.  There is also Durdle Door beach in the area but there are very steep steps to access this beach so may not be suitable for everyone.  It's worth getting down the steps however as the water is crystal clear.  There is also a nice coastal path which runs along the top of the cliffs.
Sherbourne Castle
Sherborne Castle is an historic country house in a delightful setting surrounded by stunning grounds and a very impressive 50 acre lake which was created by Capability Brown in 1753. Visitors can take a tour of the house and see the Tudor, Jacobean, Georgian and Victorian rooms.  The gorgeous lakeside gardens are ideal for those with dogs. Dogs welcome on leads in the grounds.
Durlston Country Park & Marine Project
Located in the Swanage area of Dorset this makes a great day out for the whole family. The site offers 280 acres of open countryside consisting of sea-cliffs, coastal limestone, haymeadows, hedgerows and woodland. The whole site affords stunning views and there are plenty of walking trails to explore. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads at all times.
Blue Pool, Furzebrook
Blue Pool is one of Dorset's most popular attractions. The stunning beauty spot changes with the seasons and offers a tranquil place for a day out. As well as the breathtaking flora and fauna visitors can enjoy the tea room, museum, gift shop and of course the mystical pool itself which constantly varies in colour and is a real sight to behold. Dogs welcome but restrictions may apply in some areas.
