Northumberland Pet Friendly Cottages

northumberland pet friendly cottagesFrom sandy beaches to valleys and hills, Northumberland has a wealth of landscapes which are ideal for pet friendly holidays.  The cottages in the area provide a cosy and welcoming base for your stay while all you have to worry about is enjoying yourself and exploring all that Northumberland has to offer.

There are many National Trust properties in the area which make great days out and you can even take your four legged friend along too.

Properties like the stunning Cragside Estate and Wallington Hall both welcome dogs as long as they are kept on leads.  Cragside is a sprawling woodland estate where you can spot squirrels and even deer if you're lucky.

There are lovely walks throughout and a nice drive round the outside where you can stop at various points for picnics or just to enjoy the views.  Other sight seeing opportunities in the region include Hadrian's Wall and Derwent Valley.

Once the whole family is out of energy you can return to your home from home in Northumberland.  Cottages are the perfect way to holiday as you have freedom and flexibility to do everything at your own pace.  All of the cottages are well equipped for self catering holidays and many are close to pubs or eateries for when you want to dine out.

Puffin Cottage is a charming cottage for couples situated just 5 miles from Alnwick in the village of Lesbury.  This cottage is very cosy and has some lovely features such as a woodburning stove. The great advantage of the location is that you have village amenities right on the doorstep.  You could visit Alnwick Castle by car which was made famous for the Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films.  This cottage also offers a private garden and welcomes one well behaved dog.

For a romantic retreat in Northumberland then Stable Cottage could be the answer.  Based on the edge of Acklington Village this cosy hideaway has en suite bedrooms and a four poster bed.  It has a convenient location not far from the railway station and is also next to a traditional pub.  Within driving distance of local attractions these Railway Inn Cottages make an ideal cottage holiday.

Also recommended for pet friendly breaks is the Wayside Cottage which sleeps 4, located in Edmundbyers near Corbridge.  This lovely cottage offers plenty of character and charm and is walking distance from the local shop, pub and village green.  A comfortable and well equipped base awaits you if you opt for this cottage and we are sure you will love the location.  One well behave dog is welcome.

If you want to be close to the coast then Shunting Cottage could offer what you are looking for.  This charming cottage in Acklington sleeps 3 and is convenient for the coast (a short drive away) and also castles for days out. The private gravelled garden is enclosed and 2 well behaved pets are welcome.

Beaches
Northumberland has some amazing beaches which are ideal for long walks with energetic dogs. The region also has some stunning coastal paths and trails where dogs can enjoy a run while their owners enjoy the stunning scenery. Restrictions may apply in some areas.
Belsay Hall and Garden
A fantastic place for a day trip and is highly recommended for those with dogs. The stunning 30 acre gardens surrounding the main house offer plenty of places to explore including the unique quarry garden and the colourful formal terraces. Dogs must be kept on leads.
Cragside
Cragside is a real gem in Northumberland's crown, offering beautiful gardens on a very grand scale. The site boasts several rather unique areas including the largest hand made rock garden in Europe, an Italianate ornamental garden and an orchard house bursting with fruit. If you have an energetic dog to walk you will find several paths and trails leading from the estate and extending through the countryside including a wonderful riverside walk which is also family friendly. Dogs must be kept on leads while within the estate.
Pubs
Many Pubs in Northumberland are dog friendly, with dogs being made welcome in the bar areas and beer gardens. Some even have water bowls outside so you dog can enjoy a refreshing pint too! The Hoe and Anchor in Almouth, Mizen Head Hotel in Bambrough and Caister Arms in Beadnell are among our favourite dog friendly establishments which also serve excellent food.
