Humans are a member of the family, while some people may disagree, most human owners will understand. If, like me, you struggle to leave your hair-less babies at home when planning a trip, don’t worry! There are plenty of opportunities for you to book a holiday that caters to all, even those with only two legs!
This week’s issue is all about Northumberland, a place renowned for its long walkies, beautiful landscapes, fresh and intriguing scents, and beaches. Your humans can also enjoy some breath-taking scenery and architecture whilst you paddle in the sea to your hearts content.
As you know, it can be so frustrating when you make it all the way to the beach, and you aren’t allowed on! But not to worry, most of Northumberland’s beaches cater to us throughout the year, as long as you make sure your humans are following the guidance found here.
Northumberland is home to so many wonderful places that its hard to choose just one to visit, but I’ve picked out a destination that I think is bound to have you howling with excitement.
Seahouses
Seahouses is a very popular village amongst our humans, and you can see why! Its dog-friendly beaches that stretch out to the North and South of the village, are my idea of heaven. If you love being by the sea as much as me this is the perfect place for you to visit with your family. Morning walkies are always interesting with new areas to explore, who knows what you will uncover: a stone, a rock, a crab or even treasure! Your humans can dig into their fish and chips whilst learning about the Village’s rich fishing history, whilst you make new friends that you can play chase with for hours!
If you are an adventurous pup like me, who loves the sea, you may even like to set sail on a wildlife-watching boat trip to the Farne islands. If you are worried about feeling seasick, you don’t need to be, because the vessels are very stable, making your trip safe and enjoyable. These boat trips are very human-friendly, and there are so many to choose from including sunset cruises, seal pup spotting and bird watching. Four boat companies offer trips to the Farne islands, which are under the care of the National Trust.
This means that you will have to say goodbye to your humans for a while, and stay on the boat, but this shouldn’t be a problem if you love to socialise like me! You can even enjoy some time sunbathing or lazing around the deck or making friends with the crew. If you are uncomfortable parting with your humans but would still like to experience a boat trip, you may consider a trip to Longstone island with Golden Gate. While you won’t be able to take a tour of the lighthouse, you will be able to stretch your legs and stiff out some new smells- one of my favourite pastimes! If you would like to book a trip you can do so on the day, all you need to do is take your humans to the booking offices on the Seahouses Harbour or the main car park in the village and they will sort the rest!
Bamburgh Castle
If you struggle with seasickness or do not wish to venture on board, there is still plenty to explore within this popular village without venturing to the sea. Seahouses is also a fantastic base for exploring Northumberland’s coastline. Bamburgh Castle sits, majestic and unmissable at 150 feet above the beach! You can accompany your humans to this rich historical castle, indulge in a tour around its grounds, learn about the achievements of human inventor and engineer William Armstrong, and take a pit stop in the Tack Rooms Café.
You will even be treated to a biscuit or two by the welcoming human staff! And the best part is you can walk there! So, no hectic car journeys are required of those like me who would rather get their paws dirty. You can combine your morning walkies with this 3-mile stroll to the castle, making sure to frolic and let out all of your zoomies before you make it there. With plenty of shelter, the castle is also perfect for those unavoidable rainy days, so you can make the most of your holiday even if you do miss out on the sunshine!
As you can see there is plenty to fill your holiday itinerary with at Seahouses. Beaches, castles, and boat trips…oh my! Your humans can even play a round of golf while you keep score, making sure that no one cheats!
If Seahouses sounds like place you would like to visit, there are plenty of beautiful accommodations that you can choose from. Whether you are holiday shopping on a budget or are looking to splurge a little extra, there are many self-catering cottages, inns and B and Bs that welcome well behaved dogs and their not so well behaved owners. Some even include welcome packages for us, to ensure that we have the perfect dog-friendly holiday! These accommodations are equipped with everything you will need to have a relaxing break with you humans, and you will never be far away from a dog-friendly pub for Mum and dad to enjoy.
As you can see Northumberland is home to many dog lovers who want you and your family to have the best time possible. If we have got your tail wagging why not bark and share Seahouses with your humans and secure your trip to this beautiful British coastline.
